Peddling the Poppies (2016)
Gouache on paper
21 ¾ x 15 ¾ in.

A consummate draftsperson, Cutler finds stylistic inspiration in an array of art historical sources, including Medieval religious painting, Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints, and Persian and Indian miniatures. She credits these miniatures as particularly influential in her affinity for precise detail, although her work is often larger in scale. For Cutler, encouraging the viewer to engage in intimate and prolonged viewing by leaning into the intricacies of her work is paramount.
